Rooms go quieter when warm off-white is this sure of itself. The dog does the moving; everything around it settles. Hung in a hallway or above a desk, it gives the wall a focal point without adding colour, so the room reads calmer and more considered than it did bare. It sits happily above a low sideboard, on a stair landing, or between two doorways where the shape can breathe. Pair it with dark stained wood, aged leather, worn linen and simple cream stoneware. Avoid crowding it with busy patterned wallpaper or lots of glossy metallics the fine linework needs a plain wall to read properly. As canvas it reads softer and more matt, closer to an old printed plate.
