Put it up and the wall stops feeling like leftover space the swan’s long white neck pulls your eye upward and gives the whole corner a still point. Hang it over a cot, a low chest of drawers or at the far end of a hallway, where the flat background can breathe. Keep the furnishings soft and plain: cream linen, pale wood, cane, a wool rug, one or two matte stoneware pieces in clay or cream. Skip busy patterned wallpaper and clusters of small bright prints nearby they fight the calm and the little orange beak loses its moment. As a canvas the edges soften and it sits closer to a painted panel on the wall.
