Start with the bright blue; it’ll wake every pale wood surface around it. The greys and browns you already own suddenly look deliberate rather than safe. Hung on a plain wall, the room gains a clear centre you stop noticing the empty space above the sofa and start noticing the shape. Best on a wall with room either side: above a low sideboard, between two windows, or on a chimney breast. Keep the styling calm around it. Cream and stone textiles, pale timber, chrome or steel, one white vase. Don’t crowd it with other bold colours or hang patterned pieces beside it the curves need space to read. And skip a blue cushion set; the contrast does the work. On fine-art paper the flat colour blocks stay clean and sharp.
