Nothing in this warm red and lamplit brown whispers, even when the living room does. It brings a bit of humour and a bit of swagger to a wall that has been playing it safe. Hang it above a sideboard, a record shelf or a drinks trolley, where people gather and the lamps get switched on early. It sits happily with dark wood, cane fronts, rust velvet and a clay or deep red wall. Keep the surrounding shelf loose records, a stoneware jug, one plant. What not to do: crowd it with three other bold animal pictures, or hang it in a cold white room with no lamp nearby, because the glow is doing half the work.
