Once the warm orange enters, the whole room stops apologising. A sandy beige background does the quiet work while the fruit does the talking. Hang it and a plain kitchen wall suddenly has a focal point the sort of colour that makes morning light look intentional rather than accidental. It sits well above a sideboard, at the end of a narrow hallway, or on the blank strip beside a fridge or pantry door. Pair it with pale wood, cream paint, stoneware and a bit of brushed steel. What not to do: crowd it with other food photography or busy patterned tiles. It wants one clear wall and a little breathing space either side. On fine-art paper the brushwork and dry black lines stay crisp and hand-painted.
