Not because it’s navy, but because it refuses to fade back. A dark sky broken up by gold stars and a soft pink moon has a way of holding a room’s attention from the doorway. Put it up and the wall behind it stops reading as empty; the gold catches lamplight in the evening and the purple clouds warm the bottom half of the picture. It works above a bed, in a small hallway, or beside a reading chair where the light is low. Pair it with navy or off-white walls, linen bedding, dark wood and a little brass. Don’t crowd it with bright primary colours or busy pattern the stars need quiet around them. As a canvas the deep navy fills the wall edge to edge with no glare.
