Hang this where the north-facing light hits and the grey-blue sharpens. In a cool, quiet room the pale water and hazy sky settle down, and the white bird becomes the one bright thing you look at. It slows a room without emptying it. Put it on a narrow stretch of wall between windows, above a bed, or on the wall you see first walking down a hallway. Pale linen, oak or walnut, cane and grey stoneware all sit well with it. Keep the wall around it fairly bare and skip busy pattern or bright colour close by, or the soft water loses its stillness. As a canvas, the brushwork in the background reads more like a painting on the wall.
