A study this pared back can take one serious deep red. The chunky hand-drawn type and triangular eye motif do the heavy lifting, so the wall around it can stay quiet. Hang it where you actually sit and read above a desk, a reading chair or a low sideboard and let the red carry the room. It works best on chalky off-white, warm cream or a deep clay wall, with timber tones underneath it. Pair it with a leather chair, a woven rug, stoneware lamps and one or two folk-art objects.
