Back in the 1960s, this botanical study belonged to another kind of home. Here it does the loud job instead. Put it on a plain wall and the whole room picks up a jolt of colour: the hot pink and electric blue read from the far side of the space, and everything beige around it suddenly looks deliberate rather than safe. It works above a sofa, in a hallway, or on a narrow bit of wall between two windows where you want one strong thing rather than several small ones. Pair it with pale linen, chrome, glass and one deep pink or blue cushion. Don’t crowd it with other busy florals or warm gold ornaments it needs air and a quiet wall to hit properly. As a canvas the edges soften slightly and the colour spreads wall to wall.
