Test it this way: if the bedroom feels safe, size up. Rooms that play it safe with beige and grey need something with movement, and this drift of ink leaves gives you that without adding noise. The cream background holds its own against off-white and pale grey walls, while the grey and black brushwork gives the eye somewhere to land. Hang it tall above a bed, a chest of drawers or in a narrow hallway where the vertical run of leaves has room to fall. Pale wood, linen and stoneware suit it. Keep loud pattern and heavy gilt framing well away, and give it plenty of clear wall on either side. On canvas the brush marks read softer and the surface stays matt.
