Too much beige. Not enough soft pink. This fixes that. The pink dress and white sewing cloth sit against warm brown floorboards, so the whole thing reads as light rather than dark, and it lifts a flat neutral wall without shouting. Hang it in a bedroom, a study or partway along a hallway, at eye level, where someone slows down enough to look. It gets on well with linen, cane, aged leather and walnut, and with chalky off-white or clay-coloured paint. Don’t crowd it with bright graphic posters or hard black-and-white photography; the brushwork is loose and gentle and needs room to breathe. On fine-art paper the soft edges and brush marks stay delicate and true to the original painting.
