Watch the swan land, then the deep red start doing damage. The bird arrives quietly in soft sage green and gold, and then that one red peony in the bottom corner pulls the whole wall together. A flat, quiet room suddenly has a focal point and a colour to build on. Hang it at eye level above a sideboard, or on a narrow chimney breast where the vertical shape has room to breathe. Pair it with velvet cushions, dark lacquered wood, brass fittings and one green or red accent picked straight out of the artwork. Don’t crowd it with other busy florals, and skip a cool grey wall it flattens the gold and the warmth drains out. On fine-art paper the gold linework stays crisp and the pale petals keep their softness.
