Against plaster, the mustard yellow reads less sweet, more deliberate. Put this up and a quiet wall suddenly has a pulse the dotted texture gives the colour a bit of grain, so it warms a room instead of shouting at it. Hang it at eye level in a living room, above a desk in a study, or halfway down a hallway where you want something to catch you as you pass. It sits happily with tan leather, black metal, chrome and glossy ceramics, and a deep green cushion or throw will echo the shadow running down the side. Skip pastel florals and soft watercolours next to it; they go weak beside this much colour. As a canvas the surface softens the dots slightly and gives the colour a matt, poster-like finish.
