Once the deep purple enters, the whole room stops apologising. A wall that felt flat and unfinished suddenly has depth, and the small gold stars pick up whatever lamplight is already in the room. Hang it above a bed, in a hallway with nothing going on, or on a narrow wall beside a reading chair. It sits happily with dark wood, rattan, velvet, brass or gold fittings and chalky off-white or soft grey walls. Keep the surrounding surfaces calm: one plant, one lamp, nothing competing. Avoid crowding it with busy patterns or other strong colour prints, and don’t bury it in a bright, cool white spotlight this one wants softer, warmer light. As canvas the watercolour washes keep a soft, painted edge with no reflection.
