In the 1970s, this would have felt radical. It still does. A grey heron painted in thick strokes, standing waist-deep in flowers, against a flat wall of soft pink. Hang it and a quiet room stops being polite. The pink lifts warm white and plaster walls, and the deep greens give the eye something solid to hold. It works above a sofa, at the end of a hallway or on a study wall where you sit facing it. Pair it with green or rust velvet, natural linen, cane, dark wood and stoneware. Don’t crowd it with other bold colour or busy pattern nearby one strong voice per wall is enough. On premium fine-art paper the brushwork stays sharp and the pink reads clean.
