Watch the Highland cow land, then the warm copper start doing damage. A bathroom that reads flat and functional suddenly has a face in it, and everything warms up by a couple of degrees. Hang it on the wall opposite the bath so it greets you on the way in, or above a low painted cabinet in a downstairs loo. It sits happily with brass or copper taps, chunky towels in grey and deep teal, painted panelling and warm brown timber. Keep the wall colour chalky and quiet off-white, soft grey, muted sage. What not to do: don’t crowd it with lots of small novelty signs or slogans, because the humour here works best when the piece is allowed to be the only joke on the wall. As a canvas the soft edges of the fur read beautifully from across the room.

Most animal prints behave. This one picks a side. A shaggy Highland cow in a copper bath is a joke you get in half a second, and it keeps working every morning after that. Put it up and a plain bathroom stops feeling functional. The warm brown coat and glowing copper give a cool, tiled room something to hold on to, and the soft grey panelling behind keeps it calm rather than loud. Hang it on the wall opposite the bath, above a towel rail, or in a downstairs loo where guests will spot it. Pair with dark wood, copper or brass taps, chunky towels and a woven basket. Don’t crowd it with lots of small seaside prints it wants a bit of breathing room. As a canvas the soft edges suit a steamy, relaxed room.
