At mid-morning, the hummingbird turns from nice idea to main character. Sunlight hits the orange hibiscus and the whole wall warms up. The room feels brighter and a bit more alive, without anything else having to change. Hang it at eye level on a narrow stretch of wall beside a bedroom door, at the end of a hallway, above a small chest of drawers or in a kitchen corner where you pass it often. It sits happily with linen, cane, pale wood and cream stoneware, and it likes a plain wall best. Don’t crowd it with heavy patterned wallpaper or a busy row of dark, high-contrast pictures; the white space around the bird is doing half the work. As a canvas, it reads softer and more painterly from across the room.
