With a slumped panda in a bright orange armchair, scale decides whether the living room wakes up. Go big enough and the orange does the work of a bold cushion or a painted door. Hung above a sofa, a low bookshelf or a reading chair, it gives a quiet room a punchline and stops the seating area feeling too serious. Keep the wall behind it plain off-white, pale grey or soft green and let the orange be the loudest thing. Pale wood, deep blue accents and a wool throw all sit happily with it. Don’t crowd it with other typography or another animal print; one joke on a wall is enough. As a canvas the thick paint texture reads more like a painting on the wall.
