By late afternoon, the gull study stops looking decorative and starts working. The grey back and cream paper pick up whatever daylight is left, and the wall goes quiet instead of blank. A room with pale walls, linen and pale wood gains a proper focal point without gaining colour. Hang it at eye level in a hallway, above a chest of drawers in a bedroom, or on a bathroom wall away from the shower. Pair it with soft textiles, stoneware and simple painted furniture. Don’t crowd it with bright graphic posters or heavy dark-wood pieces either side, and skip busy patterned wallpaper behind it. The fine linework needs breathing space to be seen. On fine-art paper the engraved feather detail and the aged caption stay crisp.
