Because Matisse knew restraint, the coral pink hits harder here. The print runs on hot pink, deep red and a slice of sea-blue, with a black cat sat dead-centre on a striped floor.

Put it on a wall and the room warms up by a few degrees. Quiet rooms get a pulse; colourful rooms get a focal point instead of more noise.

It earns its keep in a kitchen, a sunny hallway or a bedroom that needs lifting. Hang at eye level, on its own, with a bit of breathing room on either side.

Pair with rattan, painted timber, terracotta tile, linen and warm stoneware. Brass fittings suit it; cold chrome does not.
