What it adds isn’t clutter. It’s vertical tension in the right places. A tall column of deep green runs top to bottom, so a flat wall suddenly has a spine. Rooms that felt wide and unfocused pull inwards and settle. Hang it as the single piece on a study wall behind a desk, in a hallway where people slow down, or above a sideboard in a dining room. It rewards a second look, so put it somewhere people stand still. Pair it with dark wood, leather, linen and simple stoneware, and keep the wall behind it pale: off-white, warm stone or soft grey. Don’t crowd it with other maps or busy patterns, and don’t hang it above a heavily patterned rug. It needs quiet either side. As a canvas it reads softer, with no glazing reflections to fight.
