Back in the 1960s, this abstract belonged to another kind of home. Put it up and the wall stops being background. The rust and burnt orange pull warmth into the room, the sage green cools it back down, and the near-black blocks give the whole thing weight, so a plain sofa wall suddenly has a centre. Hang it above a low sideboard, a desk, or in a study where you sit with it for a while. Pair it with teak or walnut, tan leather, oat linen and a couple of clay-toned pots. Don’t crowd it with patterned cushions or a busy cluster of small frames it needs quiet either side. As canvas, the soft brushed texture in each block comes through more.
