Against plaster, the hot pink reads less sweet, more deliberate. The paint-splashed leaves stop the wall being polite, and the yellow and orange patches keep the whole thing warm rather than shouty. Hang it where people gather and where there’s daylight to bounce off the colour: above a sofa, beside a kitchen doorway, or at the end of a hallway that needs a reason to look down it. Pair it with plain painted walls, cane or rattan, velvet in a single deep colour, and a few plants with real leaves. What not to do: don’t crowd it with other loud florals or busy patterned wallpaper, and skip fussy ornaments on the shelf below. As a canvas the surface is matt, so the bright colour reads softer from across the room.
