With a ploughman at sunrise, scale decides whether the study wakes up. Go too small and all that carved line work turns into grey texture from two steps back. At a proper size the cut marks read clearly, the sun opens up behind the hill, and the whole wall gains a quiet bit of structure. Hang it at eye level above a desk, or on a narrow hallway stretch where you pass it close. It sits well with dark stained wood, aged leather, linen and warm cream walls. Keep the area around it plain. Busy wallpaper, mirrored surfaces or another heavily patterned piece nearby will fight the fine lines and flatten the whole thing. As a canvas it hangs frameless and flat, which suits the graphic black line work.
