Rooms go quieter when soft pink is this sure of itself. The Positano hillside climbs the wall in pastel houses, a yellow-domed church and tall dark green cypresses, and the room follows its lead.

A cream hallway suddenly has somewhere to look. A bright kitchen feels less like a kitchen and more like a place you’d linger in. The colours are gentle but specific, so the wall reads as considered rather than busy.

It hangs best at eye level on a calm wall above a slim console, between two doors, or on the long wall of a hallway. Portrait shape means it suits narrower spots that a landscape can’t fill.

Pair with pale oak, rattan, linen and a single ceramic vase. Terracotta pots and a cream lampshade help. A small olive plant nearby is never a bad idea.
