In the 1950s, this would have felt radical. It still does. A loose, hand-painted view of a Puglia town domed church, white houses, palm trees in sky blue, soft pink and cream.

Hung up, the room loosens. The colours are sunny without being loud, and the loose brushwork stops the whole thing feeling too tidy. It brings a bit of holiday into a room that might otherwise be too sensible.

Works best on a chalky off-white or pale plaster wall, above a sideboard, a low bookshelf, or the back of a sofa. Lives happily in kitchens, dining rooms and bright bedrooms too.

Pair with rattan, pale oak, linen, terracotta pots and a bit of glazed ceramic. Anything sun-bleached or handmade sits with it well.

Don’t try to match it with anything fussy or formal keep the wall around it calm. Stretched over a wooden frame and ready to hang straight from the box.
