Think of it as a Fauvist landscape with less reverence and better instincts. The red sky does the work of a feature wall, so a plain room suddenly has a centre. Hang it where the eye lands first above a sideboard, on a narrow hallway wall, or as the one piece on a wide living room wall. Keep the room around it quiet: dark timber, black metal, deep teal or green seating, cream or off-white walls, and one or two stoneware pieces. Skip busy patterned wallpaper, competing warm reds, and a crowd of small frames on the same wall. It only reads well with room to breathe. As a canvas the flat red field reads softer and more painterly from across the room.
