From the doorway, the vertical reads clean. Up close, not polite. The strokes are dry, the pencil lines wander, and there is a small dark blob near the base that refuses to tidy itself up. In a flat beige or off-white room, that gives the eye somewhere to land without adding colour or noise. Hang it on a narrow wall, above a chest of drawers, or on a chimney breast where the tall shape has room to run. Pair it with linen, pale wood, black metal and a bit of soft green in ceramics or cushions. Don’t crowd it with busy pattern or heavy florals nearby; it needs quiet either side to keep its edge. On premium fine-art paper the pencil marks stay fine and legible.
