Three things it does fast: ground bright orange, sharpen walnut, wake living room. The bird is cropped close, so the colour lands before you’ve even crossed the room. Put it where the eye already goes above a sideboard, beside a doorway, or on the short wall at the end of a sofa run. It sits happily with warm wood, cane, wool and cream ceramics, and it holds its own against a soft grey or off-white wall. Keep the shelf below it simple: two or three objects, nothing competing for attention. Don’t crowd it with other strong colour blocks, and don’t hang it low behind a busy tabletop where the orange gets lost. As a canvas the flat colour reads as one clean shape from across the room.
