“Too safe,” said nobody standing in front of soft blue-green sea. It looks quiet from across the room, then the coffee, croissant and pink grapefruit pull you right in. A kitchen or dining wall stops feeling purely functional and starts feeling like somewhere you’d linger over breakfast. Hang it where morning light lands above a sideboard, a breakfast table or a bedroom chest. It sits happily with cream linen, cane chairs, pale painted wood and plain white china. Keep the wall colour soft; chalky off-white, oat or a pale blue-grey all work. What not to do: crowd it with busy patterned wallpaper or heavy dark furniture on both sides. It needs a little breathing space to read as a window rather than a picture. As a canvas, the thick brushwork reads especially well up close.
