Watch the sleeping dog land, then the soft grey start doing damage. It looks like a quiet piece, and then the whole wall settles down around it. The white background reads almost as blank space, so a busy corner suddenly feels calmer and better organised. Hang it at eye level in a hallway, above a bedroom chest of drawers, or in a pair either side of a doorway. It works best with pale linen, painted off-white walls, light wood and simple ceramics anything that lets the pencil work stay the loudest thing in the room. Don’t crowd it with heavy pattern or strong colour blocks, and skip a very dark wall, which swallows the fine detail. As a canvas it reads softer and more relaxed, with no glare from across the room.
