Somewhere between a watercolour painter and quiet abstract landscape, this misty view refuses to behave. It gives you almost nothing to read and somehow changes the whole room. The top half is open cream, so a wall that felt cramped starts to feel wider and calmer, and the green band at the base pulls your eye down and settles everything. Hang it above a bed, a sofa or a low sideboard, at a size that lets the empty space do its job. Around it, keep things soft: linen, pale or mid-tone wood, stoneware, a wool rug, chalky off-white or soft green walls. What not to do is crowd it busy patterns, hard black metal and glossy surfaces fight the washed edges. On canvas the brushy lower band gains a little more body.
