Before anyone mentions Klimt, notice what the mustard yellow does to plaster. Warm walls stop looking flat and start looking sunlit, and the room feels a few degrees warmer straight away. The cow stares straight out, so it works best where people gather and glance up: above a kitchen sideboard, on a dining room wall, or at the end of a hallway where you want a bit of character. Keep the furnishings simple around it. Painted timber, cream linen, stoneware and a bit of aged brass all sit happily underneath. What not to do: don’t hang it beside other strong patterns or busy florals. The dots are the pattern here, and they need clear wall either side to land properly. On premium fine-art paper, the spots stay crisp and the yellow reads soft rather than glossy.
