Here’s the trick: let the abstract cut through all that plaster. A big room with plain walls and soft furnishings can go quiet very quickly, and this is the piece that gives it a spine. Burnt orange and deep red blocks push forward, the near-black squares hold everything down, and thin bands of pale blue and soft peach keep it from feeling heavy. Hang it on a wide stretch of wall in a living room or study, above a sideboard, a low bench or a desk. Pair it with mid-toned wood, tan leather, wool and a plain painted wall. Don’t sit it next to busy pattern or another strong abstract it needs clear space either side to work. As a canvas it reads as a painted panel, with no reflection to fight.
