We like an abstract best when it comes with a little abrasion. The paint here is worked by hand, so the edges wobble, the pink is uneven, and the whole tower of cubes tilts slightly off true. Hung on a plain wall, it does the job of a colour anchor: the room stops feeling beige and starts feeling deliberate. It suits a tall stretch of wall beside a doorway, in a hallway, above a sideboard or between two windows. Keep the furnishings simple around it: solid upholstery, plain timber, one or two clay pots. Don’t crowd it with patterned cushions, busy rugs or other loud prints, and skip a heavy ornate frame. On fine-art paper the flat colour blocks stay crisp and matt.
