Think of it as Hokusai with less reverence and better instincts. The sea is cut into flat ribbons of dark green, sage and soft khaki, with a scattered path of gold and white light running back to the horizon. Hung up, it does the work a window does: it gives a room somewhere to look and slows the pace down. It suits a bedroom wall behind a chair, a study above a desk, or a narrow hallway where the vertical shape leads the eye upward. Keep the company simple linen, pale wood, stoneware, a plain painted wall. Avoid stacking it near busy florals or bright graphic prints; the light trail needs quiet either side to read properly. As a canvas the surface reads softer and more textile, with no reflections.
