Against plaster, the warm tan reads less sweet, more deliberate. Hang it and the room stops feeling like a room and starts feeling like somewhere you sit down and get on with something. The light in the picture does a lot of the work: it warms up cool walls and makes an ordinary corner look lived in. Best above a writing desk, a low bookshelf or a narrow console in a study, bedroom or hallway. Pair it with dark wood, linen, cane and simple stoneware. Skip glossy black lacquer and cold chrome nearby, and don’t crowd it with loud graphic prints this one needs a little quiet either side to keep its softness. As a canvas, the painted surface reads closer to a worked-on study.
