Think of it as John Gould with less reverence and better instincts. It keeps the careful, hand-coloured feel of an old bird plate but wears it lightly, so the wall gains age without turning stuffy. Hang it in a study, a hallway or above a bedside table, where the aged cream ground picks up lamplight and the small green and coral details reward a closer look. It sits happily with dark wood, cane, worn leather and linen in oat or sage, and it flatters chalky off-white or soft green walls. What it does not want is a row of bright modern graphics beside it or a glossy white gallery setting the paper tone needs warmth around it to read properly. As a canvas it has a softer, more painterly edge on the wall.
