Not because it’s off-white, but because it refuses to fade back. The bird is drawn with almost nothing a few brown pencil strokes, a yellow eye, one dark beak and that restraint is exactly what holds your attention across a room. Hung on a pale wall it adds age and quiet without adding colour, so a plain bedroom or study starts to feel considered rather than unfinished. Put it at eye level above a chest of drawers, a writing desk or along a hallway. It sits happily with linen, cane, pale wood and cream ceramics. Don’t crowd it with loud colour or heavy pattern nearby; the empty paper around the bird is doing half the work. As a canvas the finish is matt with no glare, so it reads softly in bright rooms.
