Leave the hallway wall blank if you like cautious rooms. This one asks for a little nerve: a single bird, drawn in 1793, leaning forward across a lot of bare paper. Hung up, it does something useful it gives a quiet wall a focal point without adding colour noise. The blue-grey wing and dusty pink breast pick up on grey-greens, warm creams and old wood, and the aged paper tone stops it feeling clinical. Best at eye level in a hallway, above a desk, or over a chest of drawers in a bedroom. Pair it with dark wood, linen, stoneware and a worn rug. Don’t hang it beside loud modern graphics or bright photography they flatten the fine linework. As a canvas it reads softer and warmer, more like an old painted study.
