Against plaster, the olive green reads less sweet, more deliberate. It is a small everyday object painted with real care, and that is exactly why it works on a wall. Put it up and a plain kitchen corner suddenly has a point of view: the red cap does the work of a whole accent colour, and the black body holds the eye without darkening the room. Hang it above a counter, beside open shelving, on a narrow strip of dining wall, or in the gap between a doorway and a cupboard. Pair it with stoneware, speckled ceramics, enamel tins and pale or dark wood. Don’t crowd it with busy patterned tiles or novelty food signs it needs a bit of quiet either side. As a canvas the surface reads like a small painted panel.
