Somewhere between Juan Gris and Cubism, this portrait refuses to behave. The face arrives in pieces, then settles once you step back. On a quiet wall it gives a room a proper focal point without adding colour noise, which is why it suits rooms that already lean grey, stone or off-white. Hang it in a study above a desk, in a living room above a low sideboard, or at the turn of a hallway where you catch it in passing. Keep the furnishings simple and tactile: linen, wool, dark timber, a little black metal, plain stoneware. Avoid crowding it with patterned wallpaper or other busy pictures the angles need clear wall on either side to make sense. As a canvas the painted surface reads softer and closer to the original.
