Against pale linen, the turquoise reads less sweet, more deliberate. It brings water light into a room without turning it into a beach theme. Walls that felt flat pick up a cool, moving quality, and warm woods look warmer beside it. Hang it above a bed, a low console or in a hallway where you pass it often, and keep the wall around it clear so the sand edge on the right has room to breathe. Pair with light oak, rattan, linen and simple white ceramics. Avoid crowding it with slogan art, heavy dark timber or busy patterned wallpaper, which flatten the water and turn the whole thing into holiday decoration. As a canvas the washes read softly, with no glare across the surface.

What’s the bathroom missing? Turquoise with some nerve. This is a top-down view of open water, four surfers and a scatter of pale sandbanks, painted in loose watercolour washes. Hung up, the room stops feeling like a box of tiles and starts feeling like a bright morning by the sea. It suits a tall narrow wall beside the bath, the space above a towel rail, or a hallway wall that gets very little natural light. Keep the company simple: pale wood, white-painted joinery, waffle cotton, chrome taps, a stoneware pot in sand or off-white. Don’t crowd it with shells, rope, anchors or navy stripes. The water does the coastal work on its own, and literal seaside props flatten it. As a canvas the washes gain a little texture and the edges sit flush to the wall.
