From the doorway, the vertical reads clean. Up close, not polite. Loose watercolour edges break away from the brickwork, the chalkboard lettering wobbles, and the whole building sits on bare white paper rather than a tidy border. That mix does useful work in a room: it gives you a real subject to look at without adding pattern or heavy colour. Hang it in a hallway, at the top of the stairs, or in an alcove beside a home bar where people pass slowly enough to read the sign. It sits happily with dark painted woodwork, aged leather, warm brick and brass fittings. Don’t crowd it with busy patterned pieces or pale coastal scenes the warm brick and dark green need clear space either side. As a canvas the soft paint edges carry a little more texture up close.
