Because the illustrator knew restraint, the rust red hits harder here. Only three colours are doing any work: olive green, cream and one warm burnt orange, and that limited palette is why the fox reads across a room. Put it up and the wall stops being background. The patterned blossom fills the space like wallpaper, so a plain painted wall suddenly looks considered rather than empty. Hang it at eye level in a study, a hallway, or on the short wall of a snug living room where people pass close enough to catch the fox’s expression. Pair it with dark wood, leather, wool checks and stoneware. Don’t crowd it with other busy patterns or a large floral wallpaper this piece already brings the pattern, so let the wall around it stay quiet. As a canvas the matt surface softens the flat colour and keeps the edges clean.

The black frame matters first; it tells the hallway you’re serious. The dark linework in this piece needs a hard edge around it, and once that edge is there the whole wall reads as deliberate rather than decorative. Hang it and the olive green pulls warmth out of magnolia and clay-painted walls, while the rust of the fox picks up leather, terracotta and worn timber. It works at eye level on a hallway wall, above a hall bench, or on a study wall behind a desk. Pair it with wool, tweed, stoneware and dark wood. Don’t hang it beside glossy chrome or cool grey photography the folk linework loses its bite next to anything slick. As a canvas the surface softens the pattern slightly and the edges sit flush to the wall.
